Alberic Fiennes

Alberic Fiennes was senior lecturer in Surgery at St George's Hospital Medical Scholl from 1990 to 2003. Consultant General and Upper Digestive Surgeon at St George's Hospital 2004-2007 and is now Director ofBanatric Surgery at University College London Hospital.

He has been a Council member of the British Obesity Surgery Society (BOSS) for three years and is currently Secretary of the society.

He first undertook laparoscopic cholecystectomy in 1991. TEPP hernia repair in 1992 and was the first UK surgeon to offer day-case laparoscopic cholecystectomy and hernia repair.

Alongside his appointment as Senior Lecturer in 1990 he ran a proof-of-principle project with the Dept of Computer Aided Manufacture at imperial College London to demonstate the concept of computer-gided surgery. now a commonplace in orthopaedic surgery.

He has been active Banatric Surgery since 1995 when he took on the aftercare of a cohort of patients who had undergone weight weight-loss surgery in the 1970s and 80s. The team he leads now has twelve years experince in the NHS and the independent sector.
