Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal has visited Surgical Innovations today to meet staff, tour the design and manufacturing facilities and officially open the company’s Injection Moulding Centre.
The visit follows SI winning the Queen’s Award for Enterprise (under the innovation category), for YelloPort+plus® – a port access system which acts as a channel into the body, allowing surgeons to carry out delicate keyhole procedures
The device combines both reusable and disposable elements – a concept that the company have named Resposable® – as a way of offering surgeons and hospitals around the world a cost effective and high quality solution for laparoscopic port access.
With the support of worldwide surgeons, YelloPort+plus has fast gained a global reputation for innovation and this week two major UK hospitals have converted to using the device instead of the disposable alternative.
In the US, Surgical Innovations has this week signed a 4 year exclusive contract, which will see the device being used within a Resposable® surgical tray offering. The contract is valued at a minimum of $2.2 million over four years.
Graham Bowland, Chief Executive Officer of SI, said: “It is such an honour for us to host The Princess Royal at our Head Office and this is further recognition of the achievements of our entire team in recent years.
“As well as meeting our employees, The Princess Royal was introduced to our UK and Italian distributors, some of the countries finest surgeons and Medilink Yorkshire & Humber and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), with whom we have a close association. This highlights how close collaboration and strong innovation has helped to develop Surgical Innovations into a successful company that is waving the British flag of excellence around the world.”
