Surgical Innovations (SI) hosted a key trade representative as part of a visit to Leeds, which aims to showcase the city as UK’s centre for healthcare innovation.
Kirsten Chambers, the Boston-based Head of Trade and Investment for UKTI America, enjoyed a tour of the SI facility and heard how the US is a key market for SI going forward. SI also spoke to Kirsten about their forthcoming trip to the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA) in Boston where it will be promoting and gaining clinical feedback on our newly developed hip arthroscopic devices.
The visit – hosted by Marketing Leeds – also included an insight into ground-breaking medical research being carried out at the University of Leeds, as well as meetings with Medipex Ltd, the NHS innovation hub for the Yorkshire and Humber region, and regional healthcare support specialists Medilink.
Kirsten Chambers’ close links in Boston could help attract inward investment and secure trade opportunities for the region’s healthcare and medical technologies sector.
Speaking about the visit Graham Bowland, Chief Executive Officer of SI said: “The US is a key market for SI and we see major growth opportunities in all areas of Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) including Hip Arthroscopy, a relatively new surgical specialism which allows surgeons ‘keyhole’ access into the hip joint in order to diagnose and treat damaged tissue. Naturally we were keen to talk to Kirsten about strengthening the links between Leeds and Boston as part of our overall US development strategy.”
